I Have a Thing for Doors

Doors are transitions. They are a part of a façade and they mark the space between the identity we project and the more intimate world within. They protect us from the outside and when swung open, invite us in.

They are wood, metal, pierced with glass, draped with fabric, adorned with hardware and painted in every color, or not at all. They are found in various stages of wear, some well-kept and others in disarray. Some are old, some newly constructed. They’re broken and in perfect working order. They are a lot like us. That’s what I love and see in them.

I got home and began to imagine and make some of my own. I did so in collaboration with a dear friend, an artist whose medium is wood.
